The Cul-De-Sac

The Cul-De-Sac by Christopher Null

About The Book:
In a woodsy backyard on a lonely cul-de-sac in Northern California, away from prying eyes, veteran serial killer Klaus Fischer quietly buries his victims. Determined to quit the killing game after years and years of murdering women, he decides that his neighbor Peg Jurgensen, a middle-aged widow, will be his final victim. But when new neighbors arrive, the dynamics change. The body count rises. Can anyone on this street be trusted? Award-winning journalist Christopher Null’s newest book, The Cul-De-Sac, draws readers into a thrilling page-turner with plenty of “we’ve gotta talk about it” twists. While Klaus circles his prey, the arrival of a new family on the cul-de-sac - the first new residents in years - generates plenty of excitement, particularly from Peg. She's especially enthused about Eliza, the teenage member of the van Damal clan, who's trying to make friends in her new school while struggling with math. On a lark, Eliza turns to another neighbor, the troubled Alex, a shut-in who suffers from a mysterious disability, convincing him to become her math tutor. It isn't long before it becomes clear that Klaus isn't the only one on the cul-de-sac with secrets he doesn't want revealed, but none of that can stop Klaus' bloodlust from finally boiling over on one fateful night. And that's when things on the cul-de-sac get really weird. The fast pace of The Cul-De-Sac sees chapters toggling among the points of view of different characters, giving readers glimpses into the unsettling secrets and dangers lurking behind closed doors and inside troubled minds. The Cul-De-Sac ultimately begs the question: How well do you really know your neighbors?

Your Roots Cast A Shadow

Your Roots Cast A Shadow by Caroline Topperman

About The Book:
Caroline Topperman was born in Sweden, grew up in Canada, and lived in Poland for four years where she searched for her family’s roots and found herself. “North Americans are used to gaps, so much so that we often forget where our roots are buried. It’s easy to say, ‘I’m French Canadian or Irish American,’ but what does that even mean?” Topperman asks in her new book, Your Roots Cast a Shadow: One Family’s Search Across History for Belonging. “We need to understand who we are, and how we’re all connected.” Your Roots Cast a Shadow follows Topperman’s emotional, eye-opening journey as she moves from Vancouver to Poland in 2013. She delves into her family’s history, tracing their migration through pre-WWII Poland, Afghanistan, Soviet Russia, and beyond, and discovers that their complex experiences mirror some of what she felt as she adapted to life in a new country. How does one balance honoring both one’s origins and new surroundings? Coaxing memories from photographs and relying on voices from the past to guide her in her search for identity and belonging, Topperman explores where personal history intersects with global events to shape her family’s identity.

About The Author:
Born in Sweden and raised in Canada, Caroline Topperman returned to her ancestral roots in Poland in 2013 to live and explore her love of traveling and experiencing different cultures. From sampling authentic Neapolitan Pizzas in Naples to photographing a piano, frozen in a river in Užupis, an independent artist’s republic in Lithuania, to pitching Poutine as a great comfort food to a local French baker in Poland. She speaks fluent English, Polish, and French and holds a BFA in screenwriting from York University (Toronto). Her book credits include Tell Me What You See: Visual Writing Prompts for the Wandering Writer and a complementary guide to her blog, FitWise: Straight Talk About Being Fit & Healthy. Topperman has written a column for Huffington Post Canada and was the beauty editor for British MODE.

The Summer House

The Summer House by Masashi Matsuie Translated by Margaret Mitsutani

About The Book:
Tōru Sakanishi is a recent university graduate who joins the prestigious Murai Office, a small architecture firm founded by Shunsuke Murai, a former student of Frank Lloyd Wright. A sensitive and observant narrator, Sakanishi is captivated by the artistic quality and careful consideration the Murai Office shows to each of its designs. As the sweltering summer months approach, the Murai Office migrates from Tokyo to Kita-Asama, a mountain village and artists’ colony whose heyday has passed. There, this small team of architects, including two women who Sakanishi is clumsily attracted to, set out to design the National Library of Modern Literature, competing against a rival firm that snaps up one government project after the next. Beautifully translated by National Book Award-winner Margaret Mitsutani, The Summer House is a character-driven story with prose that highlights the natural beauty of Japan, the ingenuity of architecture, and the clashing of modernity and tradition.

About The Author:
Masashi Matsuie began his literary career as a fiction editor for the Shinchosha Publishing Company, where he worked with writers such as Yoko Ogawa, Banana Yoshimoto, and Haruki Murakami and launched Shincho Crest Books, an imprint specializing in translations of foreign works. His debut novel, The Summer House, received the Yomiuri Prize for Literature, an award that normally goes to seasoned authors who are well along in their careers.

About The Translator:
Margaret Mitsutani is a translator of Yoko Tawada and Japan’s 1994 Nobel Prize laureate Kenzaburō Ōe. She was a finalist for the National Book Award for her translation of Yoko Tawada’s Scattered All Over the Earth and winner of the National Book Award for her translation of Yoko Tawada’s The Emissary.

Two Rivers Coffee

From humble beginnings in the Brooklyn navel yard, Two Rivers Coffee’s product innovation rattled the coffee industry from the get-go. Not only did they start getting noticed for their premium craft ground coffees, but when single-serve coffee pods were first emerging in the marketplace, they saw the value in the convenience and dived in. They are the little brand that could! They are a classified small business and were among the first family-run coffee roasters to make a name for themselves in the coffee pods space. The goal was to use expertise to produce the best coffee pods on the market and have the widest selections available.
There is a level of attention that Two Rivers Coffee devotes to their products that many other roasters don’t, such as visiting the coffee farms they work with to meet and form relationships with the farmers and their families. Speaking with the farmers and pickers gave them an appreciation for the love and care that goes into each crop, as well as extra insight and guidance for each type of bean that is roasted in the state-of-the-art production facility. By perfecting signature flavors using beans from different farms, they were able to achieve the optimal blends for all of their coffees. See, smell, and taste why Two Rivers Flavored Coffee Pods Variety Pack is a leader in flavored coffee variety packs. They make these amazing coffee pods with premium arabica beans, the exact same quality beans they use in all their coffees, and carefully slow roast them in-house. Then, the beans are flavored and ground at the pinnacle of freshness, giving you the best cup of flavored coffee you'll ever try!

Delight Naturals #Spring2025

In 2013, Delight Naturals founder, Samantha, created skin care products to help maintain healthy skin in the cold Idaho weather. When tasked to create a lip care product for a friend going through chemotherapy, she wanted to create something with as few ingredients as possible that still moisturized and protected skin. Now, the line has expanded to balms, scrubs, tints, beard care, and more!
They have so many to choose from, however, my favorite of course is the Bitch Better Have My Lip Balm set! If you're going to be rude, be delightfully rude! Natural, simple ingredient lip balms with an incredibly smooth texture. A base of beeswax and coconut oil soothes and heals the driest of lips. Handcrafted in small batches to ensure the best quality and flavor. The set includes: Salty Bitch (Salted Caramel), Make Today Your Bitch (Grape Slushie), and Badass Bitch (Wild Cherry).

Driftwood Designs #Spring2025

I have been fascinated with the moon this past year and now coming in to the New Year. I have taken photos of the moon so many times, my camera roll is filling up. But now I can have the moon memorialized on a print to keep! The Moons Collection from Driftwood Designs has always been popular and this year it will be better than ever with a brand new North America Full Moons design. The lunar cycle is hugely significant for many aspects of life on Earth. For example, according to National Geographic, many corals, bristle worms, sea urchins, mollusks, fish, and crabs spawn around the full moon, probably due to the increased light. The full moon also affects the migration of birds and is essential for their navigation. In humans, it affects things such as sleep and fertility. Of course, many people watch the cycles of the moon, simply because it is so beautiful. Driftwood Designs and its customers have been ahead of the curve for some time, with Driftwood’s annual illustrated Full Moons range stunningly depicting each full North American moon over the course of the year, allowing people to keep track of the cycles, live in harmony with its influence and be aware of names attributed to each full moon. The illustrations show the full moons and the names they have been given by ancient cultures, including the Ojibwe Tribe, Algonquin Tribe, Tlingit Tribe, Abenaki, and Arapaho tribes along with Celtic, and Anglo-Saxon, Neopagan, and Medieval English. Examples include the stay-at-home moon, mountain shadows moon, and moon of falling leaves. The paintings for each month and each full moon, like the Moon names, beautifully capture the changing of the seasons and the passing of the year.
