Nicole Clarece has a new line of dresses designed for the real lives of active moms - the kind of women who leave a meeting, grab their kids from school, swing by the park, and maybe even sneak in a pickleball match - all before dinner. Instead of coming home and peeling off work clothes for sweats or “mom clothes,” these dresses give you that same comfort - but in a silhouette polished enough for the office, durable enough for the playground, and chic enough for cocktails. I got the Betty, and am so excited to wear it for our upcoming Holiday Cruise! Stay tuned to see a post when I wear it for Embarkation! Yay!
It can be hard to figure out what to do with all the artwork that kids create. This holiday season, parents can transform their kids’ masterpieces into the stars of their holiday cards. The cards, by Handwrytten, can be customized with any artwork or photograph, and robot elves armed with pens even learn your handwriting to make the holiday card creation and sending process as easy as Rudolph flying through the air. We sent a card to Callan, and he told me he didn't realize I had such nice handwriting, ha ha! But it was beautiful and so perfect! Plus super easy!
The Candy Land Candy Crafting Kits from Cricket’s Candy Creations and Hasbro turn the beloved board game into a hands-on, edible art project for kids and parents to enjoy together. Even with an older child, we enjoyed this family activity and had so much fun and laughter! The Deluxe “crEATable” Kit includes everything needed to build and decorate four colorful Candy Land worlds, from Lollipop Woods to King Kandy’s Castle. It’s a fun, screen-free way to get creative and spend quality time together during the holidays.
For a more meaningful and mission-driven gift idea this year, try The Comeback Collection from EmBOSSed Book Club - a self-development book box subscription that gives back in a powerful way. The box includes 12 transformative books - one for each month - designed to help readers reflect and grow. What makes this gift truly unique? For every box purchased, they send an identical set to someone incarcerated as part of the BOSS UP Reading Challenge. It’s a beautiful way to inspire personal growth and support second chances. They also include a free gift in the box of every subscriber, and incarcerated individuals receive a booklet of thought-provoking questions designed to spark personal insight, purpose, and meaningful change. They are an upcycled nonprofit that repurposes books, hires justice-impacted individuals, and ships with sustainability in mind. This is a meaningful, socially-conscious gift that truly stands out.

Stop Trying #BookTober

Stop Trying: The Life-Transforming Power of Trying Less and Doing More

About The Book:
If you’re struggling to get things done or meet your goals, the problem isn’t that you’re not trying hard enough; it’s that you’re trying in the first place. When it comes to getting stuff done, we fall short more often than we like to admit. This can leave us feeling frustrated and ashamed, because despite trying our very best, we can’t seem to meet our goals. Why? The surprising answer is ingeniously outlined in Stop Trying: The Life-Transforming Power of Trying Less and Doing More - an evolutionary guide that evokes the revelatory force of The Five-Second Rule and the sublime practicality of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Put simply, it turns out that trying is just an illusion for doing. Stop Trying illuminates the deception in a mindset built on trying, which can lead to anxiety, procrastination, perceived loss of control, fatigue, fear of failure, lack of follow-through, and overall life dissatisfaction. Importantly, this book offers a way out of the rut and into practical, progressive action. Stop Trying reveals the compelling science behind our brains, behaviors, and beliefs when it comes to the notion of trying. Pulling from positive psychology, the science of habit formation, clinical studies, and more, motivational speaker Carla Ondrasik guides us to proven-effective strategies for better doing - and ultimately to goal achievement and a more fulfilling life. Readers will learn techniques and tips, build skills through interactive activities, and hear sincere stories from everyday people who’ve made the transformative switch from trying to do. Achievement is just one “do or do not” decision away, and it starts with eliminating “try” from our vocabulary. Stop Trying! shows us how to do that.

About The Author:
Carla Ondrasik has been developing her “No Try” philosophy for two decades, researching, speaking, and promoting her message to business organizations, women’s leadership groups, and college-preparatory schools. She has reached such a broad audience through motivational meetups, one-on-one mentoring, and magazine writing. Carla is the former vice president of Creative Writer Development for EMI Music when it was the largest music publisher in the world. She is credited with the sales of millions of records worldwide. During her twenty-year career, she placed hit songs with legends including Barbara Streisand, Johnny Mathis, Cher, Huey Lewis, Martina McBride, Earth, Wind & Fire, Mariah Carey, NSYNC, and Christina Aguilera. Carla continues to mentor and promote the current generation of music makers. Carla attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, and resides in Southern California with her husband, musical artist John Ondrasik, whom she discovered, signed, and developed under the moniker Five for Fighting. She has two adult children and is an avid swimmer.

Author Tonya Todd #BookTober

Comics Lit Vol. 1
About The Book:
Comic Books are high art. They - and their graphic novel counterparts - harken back to classic literature and artworks. Through a series of essays, the authors will illustrate that modern pop culture characters are direct descendants of classic works of literature, and their visual depiction is inspired by the works of master artists. Join us as we peel back layers to discover gothic influences, representations of badass females, uses of the mask, and the new look of Rappaccini's Daughter, as well as discuss teaching comics in college, Black identity and power, mythological and religious tie-ins, and many more correlations hidden within the pages of action-packed heroes and villains. The essayists in this collection are, first and foremost, comic book fans with extensive backgrounds in art, film, education, literature, and writing. Comics Lit Vol. 1 contains essays by Alyson Shelton, Eric Lee, Kelly Gaines, Seth Singleton, AA McCartney, Heath Fodor, A.R. Farina, Tonya Todd, and Anthony D. Holt Jr. Foreword by Bryan Edward Hill.
52 Love

Whether your favorites consist of Elizabeth and Darcy, Sherlock and Watson, the Ring fellowship, or Professor X and Magneto, we can all say love is eternal. If the hectic pace of life has taught us anything, it's the importance of making time to preserve relationships with the people occupying our homes and hearts so that our stories last long enough for a sequel. 52 Love offers practical applications for consciously nurturing the love in a romantic partnership, without heteronormative thinking and gender-role assumptions. In weekly installments, this playful guide suggests bedrock principles for strengthening relationships and the heart. The exercises ask readers to stretch a bit beyond their boundaries while offering a wide range of ways to explore new avenues of applying love to everyday life. Whether the relationship is new or decades old, 52 Love provides 52 love lessons for couples of all ages, genders, backgrounds, or affection preferences.
Love In The Dunes
About The Book:
Through an incongruous gauntlet of slot machines and slot canyons, visitors and locals strive to make connections. How does navigating a beautiful wasteland affect their views of romance and regret? A collection of original short stories, plus a series of text-based artworks, Love in the Dunes: Las Vegas Writers on Passion and Heartache challenges the common definitions of desire and heartbreak. Some of these tales express love that’s as bleak as the miles of desert surrounding Sin City. Others describe love vividly, like basking in the glow of downtown’s Glitter Gulch. In this 12th volume in the annual Las Vegas Writes anthology, 12 local writers articulate how people surrender their hearts in a city of lust and taboo, comfort and hunger, sweetness and despair - searching beyond the glamour to reveal what it means to encounter love in Las Vegas. Includes works by Emily Bordelove, Melissa Bowles-Terry, Bob Dancer, Kimberley Idol, Jarret Keene, and Tonya Todd.

About The Author:
Tonya Todd tells stories about passionate women and the lovers obsessed with them. Her fiction explores the infinite hues of what drives us all: relationships and desires. As an author, actress, and activist, Tonya is invested in fair representation in the literary and cinematic worlds she inhabits. Her involvement in both communities provides a platform to champion marginalized artists and contribute toward an environment that embraces a variety of voices. Tonya served on the board as Henderson Writers Group’s Education Chair for four years and still coordinates Dime Grinds, their program that exposes authors to the public via monthly meet-and-greets. She is the co-host of Femme On Podcast. Her anti-censorship series Banned Books Conversations is available on her YouTube channel. She is currently working on a Dracula retelling from Mina Murray’s perspective.

The Unexpected Benefits Of Being Run Over #BookTober

The Unexpected Benefits Of Being Run Over

About The Book:
On May 21, 2018, in a pedestrian crosswalk on a quiet tree-lined street, Naseem is hit and then run over three times. Onlookers yell for the driver to stop as she hears her fate in her husband’s screams. Is he watching the mother of his children die? Miraculously, she survives, yet she is no longer the person she worked so hard to be. Her “cracks” - the changes to her body and mind - initially feel impossible to accept. In learning to embrace this new, unrecognizable self, Naseem decides to celebrate the day she almost lost her life as the day she discovered her true strength - her Unbreakable Day. In this unique memoir, equal parts heart-wrenching and inspiring, Naseem lays bare the reality of personal trauma - and how we each have the power to reimagine our lives and find beauty in both being broken and unbreakable. It was not an easy journey, or a magical discovery one day, yet she feels truly fortunate to have survived, evolved, and maybe even thrived because of this crazy life experience. The things she has learned have - hopefully - made her a better person, mother, friend, colleague, and so she has spent the last few years trying to capture some of those insights in the hopes that they might help others appreciate their own beautiful cracks and the strength in their unique journeys.

About The Author:
Naseem Rochette is the bestselling, award-winning author of "The Unexpected Benefits of Being Run Over," a memoir recognized for its inspiration, self-help guidance, and motivational impact. Easy & Interesting Reads For #BookTober

To Have And Not To Hold
About The Book:
When Lorri Antosz Benson, a 24-year-old successful producer for a groundbreaking national television show, finds herself in an impossible situation, she digs deep and faces the heartbreaking reality that the best choice for her beloved new baby is to be raised by someone else. To Have and Not to Hold is the poignant account of Lorri’s momentous decision to give her daughter up for adoption, the resulting heartache, and later, the unexpected joy of reconnecting with her daughter and her daughter’s adoptive mother. With agonizing yet heartwarming honesty, Lorri offers a profound look at a deep connection between two mothers that is born with the cry of a newborn daughter. What begins as a fragile, tenuous link develops into something dreams and miracles are made of - relationships that go to the soul, are meant to be, and are devoid of fear and possessiveness. To Have and Not to Hold holds much inspiration for any adoptive parent, adoptee, or first/birthparent, but it’s a story that anyone will find impossible to put down.
About The Author:
Lorri Antosz Benson is an award-winning television producer, writer, author, and former internationally syndicated columnist. Most notably, she worked for Donahue, the acclaimed show hosted by the legendary Phil Donahue, for fifteen years, eight of which were spent as Senior Producer. Finding Family
About The Book:
Finding Family: My Search for Roots and the Secrets in My DNA is the highly suspenseful account of an adoptee trying to reclaim the biological family denied him by sealed birth records. This fascinating quest, including the author’s landmark use of DNA testing, takes readers on an exhilarating roller-coaster ride and concludes with a twist that rivals anything Hollywood has to offer. In the vein of a classic mystery, Hill gathers the seemingly scant evidence surrounding the circumstances of his birth. As his resolve shores up, the author also avails himself of new friends, genealogists, the Internet, and the latest DNA tests in the new field of genetic genealogy. As he closes in on the truth of his ancestry, he is able to construct a living, breathing portrait of the young woman who was faced with the decision to forsake her rights to her child, and ultimately the man whose identity had remained hidden for decades. Finding Family offers guidance, insight, and motivation for anyone engaged in a similar mission, from ways to obtain information to the many networks that can facilitate adoption searches. The book includes a detailed guide to DNA and genetic genealogy and how they can produce irrefutable results in determining genetic connections and help adoptees bypass sealed records and similar stumbling blocks.
About The Author:
Richard Hill's groundbreaking use of genetic genealogy tests in adoption search was featured on the front page of The Wall Street Journal. In order to share his success secrets and tips with other adoptees and genealogists, Hill created an educational website, DNA-Testing-Adviser.com, which makes genetic genealogy understandable to all. Richard gives talks and interviews on DNA testing. As the unifying expert who bridges the fields of genetic genealogy and adoption search, he has become the go-to person for adoptees and others seeking to find lost relatives or confirm suspected relationships. The author has a BS in physics, an MBA, and more than thirty years of experience in marketing.
Changing Gears
About The Book:
What happens when a mother and her 16-year-old son drop everything to bike across the country? On the TransAmerica Bicycle Trail, they struggle up hills in the pouring rain, they feel soreness in muscles they didn’t know they had, and they learn more about each other than they ever knew before. When licensed clinical therapist and self-proclaimed “reluctant adventurer” Leah Day felt herself drifting from her son, Oakley, she decided to make a drastic play to reconnect. In this memoir chronicling the journey of a lifetime, Leah and Oakley find that if they can push themselves to accomplish physically exhausting and emotionally taxing milestones on a bike, they are capable of anything!
About The Author:
Leah Day lives on Peaks Island in Maine with her husband, four children, and dog, Cricket. A licensed clinical therapist and former Outward Bound instructor, she now owns and operates Lighthouse Bikes in South Portland, Maine, and documents her outdoor adventures on her blog bikemum.com.
Going On Nine
About The Book:
A child swipes her mother’s ring, snatches her sister’s nightgown, and runs outside to play “bride.” She soon loses the ring, rips the gown, correctly assumes it’s about to rain daggers, and runs away from home to find a better family. What happens next is a summer-long journey in which Grace Townsend rides shotgun in a Plymouth Belvedere, hunkers in the back of a rattletrap vegetable truck, crawls into a crumbling tunnel, dresses up as a prom queen, and keeps vigil in the bedroom of a molestation victim. There are reasons why Grace remembers the summer of 1956 for the rest of her life. Those are just a few. Through the eyes of a child and the mature woman she becomes, we make the journey with Grace and discover important truths about life, equality, family, and the soul-searching quest for belonging.
About The Author:
Catherine Underhill Fitzpatrick grew up in the 1950s and 1960s in suburban St. Louis. She is the second of six children. She, like many children her age, enjoyed summer vacations unscheduled and unfettered. After graduating from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, she worked as a metro daily newspaper feature writer in Hannibal, St. Louis, and Milwaukee. In September of 2001, Catherine was in Manhattan to cover New York Fashion Week. At the first word of the terrorist attacks, she rushed to Ground Zero and filed award-winning eyewitness reports. An account of her reportage that day appears in Running Toward Danger. A front page of the newspaper edition containing one of her 9-11 dispatches is among those memorialized in Washington DC's Newseum. Her book-length account of her harrowing experiences that week has been accessioned into the State Historical Society of Missouri archives. Catherine is a board member of the Chicago-area TallGrass Writers Guild. She and her husband, Dennis, have two daughters. Their first grandchild, Lillian Leslie Gould, was born in June 2013. Catherine and Dennis divide their time between Chicago and Bonita Springs, Florida.
