Top Tips #BEDM

Day 6 of #BEDM is Top Tips. Because of what is going on in my life with a possible divorce lingering, I wanted to share 6 tips I found on Huffington Post.

#1 - Go it alone.
"Most people think, 'I need my spouse to work with me to fix our marriage.' But it does not take two to tango. One person's effort can change the momentum of a marriage, and very often, it's that effort that motivates the obstinate spouse to join in the process of saving the relationship."

#2 - Stop asking yourself the wrong question.
"Many people wonder, 'Did I marry the right person?' But that's the wrong question. The key to succeeding in marriage is not finding the right person; it's learning to love the person you found. Love is not a mystery. Just as there are physical laws of the universe - like gravity, which governs flight - there are also relationship laws that, depending on your behavior, dictate the outcome of your marriage. You don't have to be 'lucky in love.' It's not luck; it's choice."

#3 - Know that absence does not make the heart grow fonder.
"That might have been true in junior high school when you went away for the summer. But in marriage, particularly in a broken marriage, absence separates people. It creates distance, and that's the opposite of what we're trying to achieve, which is closeness."

#4 - Don't talk about your problems.
"Talking about the problems in a marriage doesn't resolve them; it makes them worse. It leads to arguments and bad will. Besides, you'll never talk yourself out of a problem that you behaved yourself into. Marriages change because people change. Say little; do much. Speak in the vocabulary of your actions. New choices resolve marital problems; discussions don't."

#5 - Don't think marriage counseling is the answer.
"Marriage counseling does not work in most situations. The success rate is dismal. Most couples report being worse off after marriage counseling. One of the reasons relates to talking about the problems."

#6 - Don't talk to family or friends about your situation.
"One of the most important values in a marriage is privacy; therefore, it's a mistake to talk about your marriage or your spouse to family or friends. It's a violation of your spouse's privacy and it's wrong."

What's In Your Bag #BEDM

Day 4 of #BEDM - What's In Your Bag?
Well, I don't generally carry a bag or a purse anymore, as I don't have a little kiddo anymore. He is 8 and carries his own bag now, hee hee! I do carry my wallet though, and it has my life in it basically. Pictures of both kids, credit cards, cash (if I ever have any, ha!), rewards cards, library card, an Angel tarot card that I found randomly after Mason died, my license, loose change. Sometimes even a tube of chapstick. Receipts from stores. The usual. Not very exciting is it?

What's in your bag?

Walk To Work #BEDM

Day 3 of #BEDM topic is Walk To Work.
May is National Walk To Work Month. And I can actually do that, since I live in a really small town and my work is only about 5 blocks away. And the weather is finally nice out!

Are you able to walk to work, or is the distance too far?

Monday Musings #BEDM

Today's topic is Monday Musings.
I want to jump on this whole transgender bathroom issue. I could care less. When I have to pee, I have to pee. I still bring my 8 year old son into the women's bathroom with me. There are locked doors. No one is gonna really see anything. And I am pretty sure that in a guy's bathroom, the guy next to you is not checking out your junk, ok? I just don't think it is a terribly big issue.

What do you think?

Tell Us Something New #BEDM

I am participating in Blog Everyday In May (#BEDM). Today, the first topic is Tell Us Something New.

The only thing that comes to mind that is new in my life is something sort of depressing. I might become a single mother soon. My husband of 13 years and I are going through a really rough patch, and it may end in divorce. Like for real. We've discussed it. But we both agreed to try to make things work again. It is a slow going process. The last thing I want to do is get a divorce. But ever since our youngest son, Mason, died in 2011, things have slowly been getting worse. The emotional connection is nearly gone. We've both strayed. It is hard to build that trust up again. And build that love as well. But we are hanging on. We have our 8 year old, Callan, to think about. So, what will be will be. But I am praying for the best.
