Make $5 With #GiftedMath

Chores teach responsibility and can be a great way to teach children how to manage money. Callan has chores daily, and he earns money for them (if he does them correctly). This #GiftedMath worksheet offers a story problem using chores. Each chore is assigned a dollar amount. The goal is to select which chores can be done to earn a total of $5.

Friday Fun - Running Division #GiftedMath

How fast are you really? Time yourself running 100 yards (300 feet) and do the math to figure it out.

How long did it take you (in seconds)?

If you ran 300 feet in that length of time, how many feet would you run in just one second?

Divide 300 by your running time in seconds. Now, how many feet would you run in a minute?

Multiply feet per second by 60. How about a whole hour?

Multiply feet/minute by 60. How fast were you running in miles per hour? Divide the number of feet you would have run in an hour by 5280 (the number of feet in one mile).

Fractal Triangle #GiftedMath

F R A C T A L T R I A N G L E
This is a fractal triangle. By repeating the triangle pattern at different scales within the larger shape, a complex shape is formed. For this activity, you will need: markers, colored pencils, or crayons, and a ruler.

Who Would Win At Minute Math #GiftedMath?

I will admit I suck at math. Even elementary math. Callan is pretty good at it, if he doesn't get flustered. Jason, of course, is the family genius (let's hope Callan gets his skills!) Here are some Minute Math sheets. Print them out and test yourself against your kiddos in a 1-minute face off! I'm going to do this with Callan when I get home from work, so stay tuned for the video! I'm sure the little stinker will win!

Hand Multiplication Facts With #GiftedMath

Frank Adler (Chris Evans) is a single man dedicated to raising his spirited young niece, Mary (Mckenna Grace), a child prodigy. But Franks and Mary’s happy life together is threatened when Mary’s mathematical abilities come to the attention of her overbearing grandmother (Lindsay Duncan) – who has other plans for the girl. You’ll love every moment of this “deeply satisfying” (Edward Douglas, Film Journal International) film, also starring Jenny Slate and Oscar Winner Octavia Spencer. Out on Digital July 11th, and BluRay and DVD release is July 25th!

All week I will be sharing some fun activities (today, you get a double dose, since I am behind! Errr!) First - a fun and easy way to learn how to multiply using your hands. This is how we taught Callan, and I still use my hand to this day while doing math!

Rose wants to be closer to her older sister, but she and Angela couldn't be more different. Both strong women, will their sibling rivalry ever end? When a letter arrives from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, Angela and Rose decide to visit Aunt Silvia, their mother's Mennonite sister, in the heart of Amish country. This vacation could provide the opportunity both sisters need to sort out their issues. And yet instead of finding a new way of connecting with each other, Angela and Rose discover surprising family secrets that add to their strife and threaten Rose's romance with a new beau. 5 Relaxing Things to Do When You Need Alone Time

Life can be a hectic rollercoaster of chaos and emotions. And sometimes, it’s nice to sit back and relax to clear your mind with some much-needed alone time. When you have a moment to yourself, here are 5 things you can do to unwind, relax, and calm your frazzled nerves.

Ground Yourself in Nature
Nature is comprised of beautiful energies, each working to help ground you and soothe your senses. Take off your shoes, feel the grass or sands beneath your feet, and close your eyes to breathe in deep lung-fulls of fresh air. Feel and hear nature all around you, and allow yourself to feel at peace.

Take a Spa Afternoon
Manicures, pedicures, and massages? Yes, please. Spa afternoons are the best because you can relax and leave the pampering to the professionals. Most spas even specialize in the perceived flaws that bother you most. So don’t be afraid to ask about their best products for sagging neck, or recommended treatments for crinkles around your eyes. Opt for deep tissue massages to work out your knots, and take a minute to truly feel your muscles unwind.

Complete a Longtime Project
There is nothing quite like the satisfaction that comes from completing a project that you have been working on for months, or longer. Take some time from the chaos of life to work on your long-time, long-term projects, such as a photography collage or a collection of painted artworks.

Do Something Nice for Yourself
Do you love big boxes of chocolates? Do you love sitting in the dark with a bag of popcorn to watch the newest movie release? Or, would you rather stay home with a good book and a cup of tea? Whatever you love to do to unwind…do it. Never be afraid to do something nice for yourself. You are deserving of positive things, so indulge for a little while.

Color, Paint, Draw - Delve into Your Hobbies
Sometimes it can be difficult to stay connected with who you are and what you love to do. With the chaos of the world crashing at your door, especially when you have to go to work, it’s important to keep sight of yourself. How so? Reconnect with your hobbies. Paint, color, draw… do whatever makes you happy, content, and satisfied in your life.

When you find yourself feeling challenged or upset about the everyday negatives in your life, take a minute to relax and be calm. You deserve to feel soothed and at peace, regardless of what you have to do to achieve that sense of tranquility.
