Made in America. A label you don't often see anymore. But, if you look in the right places, you'll find a whole amazing marketplace of virtually anything you want made in the USA and maybe even around the corner.
Me? I'm hard at work just a stone's throw from a cornfield in the Heartland of America. My studio, Spritely Moon, produces high-quality, hand-crafted fashion designed to fit American Girl dolls.
I list everything on my own website, but complete the transactions mostly through Etsy. Every time I browse, something new and interesting pops up. Inevitably, I stumble onto something made right down the road and think to myself, "I had no idea someone here made that."
While mass-produced products dominate the market, there is a certain satisfaction to going local. To me, no matter which end of the transaction I am on, there is nothing better than a personal approach, a conversation with someone who could be your neighbor.
Studies show that nearly twice as much of your hard earned money stays in your community (your town, your state, your country) if you shop at a locally-owned business. Studies also show other benefits of going local include the uniqueness, quality, and variety not only in the products, but also the community itself.
America is a wonderfully creative place and it is right around your corner.
