Why And How You Should Quit Smoking Today!

When medical experts and general public talk about vices smoking is often omitted. This is due to the fact that we tend to focus on alcohol, drugs, gambling and other issues that a modern man has.

In all of that, we tend to neglect smoking thinking that this is a benign vice and that there aren’t many repercussions for doing it. This is completely inaccurate.

Smoking can be life threatening as any other addiction. The main issue is that effects are not so obvious to a common viewer although all of us are enveloped in cigarette smoke when there is a smoker nearby. Nevertheless, it isn’t something that should be taken lightly and if possible, you should deal with it in near future.

This is why I’ve made a list of different useful tricks and steps that can help you finally overcome the issue.

1. Proper planning
Like with any other vice it is necessary to create a proper plan. Just saying “I’m not going to smoke anymore” won’t get you anywhere. Of course, there are some people who can pull it off but it is harder way to do it. Instead you need to create a situation where quitting is easy be putting in place various activities and limiting some stuff that were normal until now.

2. Mental strength
However, even before you can do anything, you need to ask yourself if you’re up to the task. Depression and bad mood can affect the whole process making it that much harder. Also have in mind that smokers commonly use nicotine as a way to relieve stress. So, if there is some issue in your life, it is much better to fix it before you fully dedicate yourself to the program.

3. Removing things that remind you of cigarettes and tobacco
As time goes by cigarettes become integral part of our life. We start creating our own rituals and habits. In fact, there are certain activities and situations where we simply need to light one. You need to remove or reduce all these things that cause issues. Always remember that easiest way to relapse is by constantly remembering cigarettes. If you manage to forget them, there is a much higher chance you will succeed.

4. Substitutions
If you were a smoker for a longer period of time, it might be hard to complete eliminate cigarettes overnight. This is why electronic cigarettes exist. Electronic cigarettes or e-cigarettes use vape-juice; substance meant to replace nicotine. The very fact you made this switch will make you healthier. Still, you shouldn’t stop there are you should try to eliminate even e-cigarettes one day.

5. Get a money jar
One of the biggest issues when you quit smoking is the fact that you eliminated something that brought you pleasure. Even though this is bad for your health, you felt good with cigarettes. In order to get mental replacement and to further motivate yourself, you should get a jar where you will place all the money you saved on cigarettes. First, this will show you the actual savings. Second, you can use this money to find some other fulfilling hobby or activity.

6. Punishment treatment
This trick is similar to money jar although it works in reverse. Whenever you relapse, you need to find a way to punish yourself. This should be some smaller limitation such as skipping dinner, not being able to watch favorite series or not being able to eat cookies. As a result, this day will stick in your memory and will associate you of negative things. In fact, the worse this day is, the bigger mental “scar” it will leave. After a while you will start seeing cigarettes as a negative thing.

7. Get a puppy/kitten
Chance of relapsing increases with the number of times we recall cigarettes during the day. This is precisely why you need to do something that will occupy your attention and thoughts. Getting a small puppy or a kitten is precisely the thing. This way, you will have your hands full during upcoming period and you will also have to dedicate a lot of time to various trainings. Needless to say, don’t get a puppy just so you can quit smoking; get puppy/kitten only if you really love them and are willing to take care of them afterwards.
