When Insects Invade: The Dangers of Pest Infestations

Crossing paths with an insect or two in your home is common. Depending on where you live and the time of year it is, pests may travel through your house without warning. It's when that one or two bugs in your home turn into five, ten, and then fifteen that you need to be concerned. Insects on the premises is not a good sign. Being grossed out or embarrassed won’t be your only problems if you don’t handle the problem immediately.

What many people don’t realize is that pests are not only horrible to look at, but they’re very dangerous to your home, personal belongings, and health. If you notice signs of an infestation in your house, it is best you contact a location-based service provider. You want a specialist who's familiar with your regional insects. You want to search by city, not state. So if you live in Norman, OK, for example, then search for "pest control Norman" instead of "pest control Oklahoma". This way, you'll find the right company to exterminate and get those insects out of your home. If you don’t you may suffer consequences like this:

Structural Damage
There are some insects that do damage to your property. Take termites for instance. If they are allowed to remain on the property they begin to chew away at the wood in and around the home. Before long, you could be looking at thousands of dollars in property damage that needs to be repaired.

Holes in Clothes
If you adore your wardrobe then you don’t want to let insects like silverfish, crickets, skin beetles, or moths make their way into your closet. These fabric eating bugs will ruin your clothes chewing holes into everything they can sink their teeth into.

Respiratory Problems
If you have asthma and allergy sufferers in the home, insects will make their conditions worst. Roaches, for example, shed their skin and leave droppings all around the house. It releases proteins known to trigger allergic reactions.

West Nile
A new phenomenon is a virus known as the West Nile. Transmitted by infected mosquitoes, when bitten the disease is transferred to humans. The virus, unfortunately, has life-threatening symptoms.

Bites
A common defense mechanism for insects is to bite. From roaches to bed bugs, there is a chance that you could get bit by a bug. Some bites, are harmless and only cause a bump and itching, while others can result in a rash, allergic reaction, or illness.

Food Contamination
Insects can easily contaminate your food supply causing a host of health problems. They are often the hosts or source of toxins and disease which can be transferred through contact with food directly or from leaving droppings and skin behind on surfaces where food is prepared.

Uneasiness
Bugs can damage your home and harm your health, but they also create an uneasiness in your home. When dealing with an infestation, you find yourself always on edge looking for the next insect invading your space. Suddenly, it becomes embarrassing to have company over, and your house is no longer your home.

Letting insects remain in the house that you work hard for is the worst thing you can do. They have the potential to damage the integral structure of your home, ruin your personal belongings, and cause thousands of dollars in repairs and replacements. Not only that, but they also have a grave impact on your health. From respiratory issues and itchy bites to allergic reactions and deadly viruses, there is a lot at stake. The best thing you can do for yourself and those that live with you is get rid of those creepy crawlers by using prevention methods and contacting a reputable pest control company for assistance.
