5 Fashion Essentials For The Female Motorcyclist

There's nothing better than the feeling of the wind in your hair and a motorcycle purring beneath you. Before you hit the road, however, make sure that you're outfitted with these five essentials.

1. Bomber Jacket
A staple of the motorcycle wardrobe is a good jacket. While you can find specially-made riding jackets out there, they might be uncomfortable unless they've been customized for a woman's frame. A simpler alternative is a bomber jacket. It will protect you from the wind and rain while still looking great.

2. Vest
If you don't want to spring for an entire jacket, consider a vest instead. It will cut down on wind resistance while also providing coverage from the elements, but it will also leave your arms free. You'll have a full range of motion for your shoulders. Just make sure that you're buying a high-quality vest that was designed for biking or riding.

3. Gloves
You might think of gloves as a luxury, but if you're an avid motorcycle rider, they'll quickly become a necessity. Your hands can really take a beating when they're clutching gears all day, so invest in a good pair of gloves to prevent damage.

4. Chaps
Chaps are designed to protect your legs without bunching around your waist or thighs. While you might be most familiar with cowboy-style chaps, there are also sleek, stylish ladies motorcycle chaps that are much less gaudy than your typical rodeo fashion. Some of them even come with subtle reflective strips to ensure that you're always visible on the road.

5. Overpants
Perfect for cold, wet or generally unpleasant weather, overpants are exactly what they sound like: pants that are worn over your regular trousers. They're usually water- and wind-resistant, and they're designed to be nice and baggy so that they aren't a nuisance. You can rev down the road to your heart's content when you're in a comfortable pair of overpants.

These are just a few ways to look stylish as a female motorcyclist. The world is waiting for you, so get dressed, look sharp and hit the road!
