Fun Party Games for 50th Birthday Parties

50 is the new 40. Or 30. Whichever one, 50 doesn’t have to mean you’re over the hill just yet. So spend your birthday partying it up with these fun games:

Name That Tune

You’ll need: A playlist of songs from different decades (up to 50 years - you can see some great lists here) and a written list of each songs name and artist. Split the party into two groups – you’re playing head to head in this game, regardless of age: your little brother and your grandpa shouldn’t be excluded from this one!
When you begin playing the music, teams will try to be the first one to shout out the name and artist of the song. Extra points for decade, and extra extra points if they can pinpoint the year the song was made. The first team to guess correctly will win points for their team. (To be decided on before game play begins) If a team can only get either the artist or the song, not both, then half points can be awarded. Play each song on the playlist and see who wins and whose memory just isn’t what it used to be!

Liar Liar

You’ll need: Yourselves, and a good imagination!
Arrange guests into groups of three or four. Instruct your guests that two of the three (or three of the four) must come up with a true story: this can be anything interesting, something that others would think is a lie – when you met a celebrity, or ate something bizarre. The one person in the group left needs to come up with a lie. Once the guests are ready to tell their story, they tell these to the rest of the larger group. Once all the players in one group have told their stories the larger crowd needs to decide who they believe is lying. The liar is later revealed to the group. The game is especially fun after a couple of drinks, where people think they’re being really stealthy and are totally obvious, or the stories all just start to sound unbelievable! Besides, anyone "over the hill" just loves telling stories about themselves!

The Price is Right

Unfortunately without the dream cars and prizes.
You’ll need: a variety of items commonly sold during the birth year of the birthday boy/girl. Anyone "over the hill" will remember this game show. Pen and paper for groups.
Separate the party into groups. This version of ‘The Price of Right’ involves guessing the price of some items from the year the guest of honour was born. The items can be as mundane or as eccentric as you can find – Google will be your friend in researching for this game! Anyone who guesses the correct price gets five points, and anyone who gets within a certain price range gets one point. The contestant or group who has the most points at the end of the game wins.
There are lots more fun party games, decorations and gag gifts on http://spencersonline.com
These are only a few imaginative alternatives to the common party games: charades, bingo, card games and so forth. Remember, 50 isn’t the over the hill oldie you imagine! So have some fun with it, and get everyone laughing and having a good time. What are some party games you’ve seen at a 50th birthday party?
