F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2012

The Trust for America's Health just released a very compelling report entitled: "F as in Fat: How Obesity Threatens America's Future 2012”. The take-away from the report, if each state committed to reducing its cumulative Body Mass Index (BMI) by 5% by 2030, it would dramatically shift the overall health and wellness of the U.S.

Here it is in numbers:
If BMIs were lowered, the number of Minnesotans who could be spared from developing major obesity-related diseases could be:
Type 2 diabetes: 609,902
Coronary heart disease and stroke: 1,365,612
Hypertension: 1,312,110
Arthritis: 844,916
Obesity-related cancer: 194,660

That is a lot of Minnesotans whose quality of life can be significantly impacted by making a commitment to a healthy way of life. As a leader in health and wellness, Life Time Fitness is responding to the growing epidemic by encouraging Americans nationwide to commit to change in 2013. The revolution to the resolution kicks off on January 1 with simultaneous 5K events taking place in 35 cities across the country, including Minneapolis.
