Reuse……Another Use For A Common Product

The second of the three R’s (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) is one of my favorites! What’s your favorite way to reuse common household items?

Let’s start a list:

Monistat Chafing Relief Powder-Gel:
According to my friend A, this power/gel works as a great makeup primer. I googled this today and found it all over the internet – that the Monistat Chafing Powder is much cheaper and works just as well or better than most expensive brand-name makeup primers. I have no personal experience with this, but if it can save you money, it’s worth mentioning!!!

Dental Floss:
Nikki reminded me last week that Dental Floss is a great help when cutting cake. You can use it to level a cake before you put the icing on or use it to cut a thick cake into 2 layers. My Grandmother, who was a professional cake decorator, often used it to cut slices of wedding cake or bridal shower cakes. She insisted that it was a much smoother, cleaner cut than using a knife. It also helped her make the cake pieces all a consistent size which allowed her to serve the most guests.

Ramen Noodle Box:
If you buy Ramen noodles, you know that they come in a very strong cardboard box. If you remove the plastic wrapping, the box makes a really sturdy catch-all for toys or craft supplies.

Dustpan:
Makes a perfect scoop for small toys like legos.

Over the door shoe organizer:
1. Use to organize spice packs or gravy mix packets
2. Organize small toys in kids closets

Wipe Container Box (from Trish):
Take off the lid and store gravy packets and spices.

Large vase:
I use it to keep my spatulas and large spoons corraled on the counter. The glass vase is pretty and the large mouth makes it easy to access.

Zippered CD Case:
Use to keep sorted coupons organized.

Butter/Yogurt tubs (from Trish):
Use the smaller butter containers and plastic yougurt containers for my kids sand box; Lids are sometimes used under some of my flower pots.

I’d love to hear your favorite REUSE idea! I’ll add it to the list. Why should we buy something when we already have something in our house that works just as well?
