Moms in the Philippines: What They Are Known For

I wanted to share with you my thoughts and observations about the moms in the Philippines. Just so you know, I have Filipino friends who live in the US. Even if they are surrounded by Western people and culture, their South East Asian culture is still noticeable. Allow me to tell you some of my insights.

They are selfless. I know that most moms are selfless. However, Filipino moms are taking it to another level. They can leave everything, even their dreams, for their kids. I would say that most of them are still conventional. I believe that the modern days allow moms to work, right? In their case, they will choose to resign just to be with their babies up until their schooling days.

They have their own version of lullaby. I wish you could also hear their lullaby. It’s so sweet and sincere. Instead of getting a DVD or MP3 to play their lullaby, they just sing. It doesn’t matter if you have a bad voice. It’ll still sound great! Perhaps, that’s the magic of their song.

They are hands – on. This is in relation with the first observation. I noticed that they don’t easily hire a babysitter for their kids. As much as possible, they do all the work. They firmly believe in the bonding between babies and mommies. In fact, they still serve their kids even at their 20s, 30s and so on. No matter what their kid’s age is, they treat them as babies. Not that this is a bad thing. They just have a very strong love and connection with their children.

They are good with multi – tasking. This is what I love about Filipino moms. They are really good with multi – tasking. They can cook while having the baby on their back (thanks to carriers). They can finish the laundry while feeding the kids. I can call them, SUPER MOMS!

You can say that Filipino moms are the old school ones. But they are the moms that you would want to keep forever. They can stop whatever they are doing to be with their kids. They are caring in ways unimaginable. They don’t care about sleepless nights as long as their kids are having sweet dreams. I admire their selflessness and ability to let go of the personal desires. For me, they are the picture perfect moms, the one that you will surely be proud and the one that you will treasure for a lifetime.

  1. Thanks for sharing this. I hope these moms never lose what makes them special, even if they are living in the Western world. I think "we" could learn a thing or two from these examples.
