The Most Precious Gift on Valentine’s Day *Guest Blogger*

To some males, it is said that Valentine’s Day is the most dreaded holiday of the year. Yes, some are not looking forward to the romantic day. You can do the traditional gifts: flowers, candy or stuffed animals or a romantic dinner out at a fancy restaurant… OR…

How well do you know your sweetheart?

Where will those gifts be on February 15? Is your Valentine allergic to flowers? Prefers yellow, instead red roses? Do they like other types of flowers better? Does your Valentine enjoy milk or dark chocolate? Does your Valentine own an unruly pet that may tear the stuffed animal to shreds overnight? Dinner lasts for about an hour, takes you about another hour to get ready and you will end up in any restaurant with at least 100 plus other people and may have a long wait if you forgot to make reservations.

Elaborate VS Giving of Yourself

Over and over again, people each year pay large amounts of money for flowers (you get the same flowers for $14.99 two weeks before the holiday) or gifts that are sweet but not long remembered. People, people, people… you love this person, get creative instead of elaborate. Give of yourself instead of your wallet/pocketbook.

Ideas that will cost you little but have big rewards

Here are a few ideas that won’t cost a fortune or take a lot of time. After all, spending uninterrupted time with your Valentine is what you both want, right? Both men and women love a home cooked dinner made just for them. Having a home cooked meal might be rare at your house so wouldn’t it be wonderful to actually have one on this special night? Nothin’ says lovin’ like something cooked just for the recipient. You don’t need to make it elaborate, just extra-special for the person. You can sizzle fully dressed, partially dressed or only in an apron, depending on your comfort level.

Another very romantic gift is the gift of massage for your partner. No, not from the salon, but from you. Being touched by the person that loves you most in the world is one of the greatest gifts anyone can receive. Most of us don’t take the time to really touch our lover. Valentine’s Day should be that one day you make that extra effort to do this. Again, the massage doesn’t have to be “perfect”, just time spent together touching each other in ways that feel good. Who knows your sweetheart’s likes and dislikes better than you? The holiday day is about taking the time to make the other person feel special and loved. Don’t forget the massage oil in your special person’s favorite scent.

A chick-flick for her or an action-packed movie for him is always a sweet thing to do. Spend the movie time holding hands, playing footsies, sitting close and munching on snacks that you both love to enjoy. You don’t have to go anywhere to enjoy the company of each other. You don’t even have to be appropriate.

One thing that rarely gets done but really should be a favorite pastime for Valentine’s Day is something so simple, but overlooked. Just being with your partner and each of you talking about how great your life is with them. Of course, both people need to be able to express themselves to the other with gratefulness.

Poems are always a welcome gift. Both men and women love these and if you make your special one laugh…well, who doesn’t enjoy laughing? That can be very romantic for this special evening.

Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be a dreaded time for anyone. Use that thing between your ears and the day can not only be wonderful but also be remembered for a long time by both of you.
