Dynamic Literacy Foundations Review & *Giveaway*

WordBuild is based on morphology, or the study of units of meaning in words. Where phonics teaches students to sound out words, morphics® teaches them how to mean out words. Learning the system of meaning behind words (WORD = prefix + root + suffix) leads to exponential vocabulary growth. The objective of WordBuild is to give students the tools they need to look at unfamiliar words as puzzles to be solved.

WordBuild contains 5 years worth of curriculum, divided into 2 series. Foundations is two years worth of material that focuses on prefixes and suffixes, having students attach them to words they (mostly) already know. Spelling and grammar are covered in a natural way, as suffixes often affect spelling and change the part of speech. Every activity is designed to take 15 minutes or less.

The Elements series is three years of material that focuses on Latin and Greek roots. We never give a student a list of words to memorize. Students build their own lists through the activities in the program, and, because every word they create or encounter for a week is related in meaning, they remember them. We include a weekly test which has 2 words we know they haven’t seen before! The 1st level of Elements includes review of each prefix and suffix before it is used the first time. Once again, every activity is designed to take 15 minutes or less.

WordBuild® Foundations is the first in a series of vocabulary products designed for students from third grade through college and adult literacy programs. It is the next logical step after phonics, and lays the foundation for the bridge from phonics to comprehension. Mastery of phonics helps students 'sound out' unfamiliar words. The study of morphics helps students 'mean out' unfamiliar words. Classroom exercises teach students to see that words are composed of morphemes, or individual units of meaning. Foundations focuses on the prefixes and suffixes and builds on students' prior knowledge by attaching them to words they already know.

Both levels in the Foundations Series include:
* Individual Student Activity Books covering a full year’s curriculum
* Complete Teacher’s Manual with Answer Keys
* Access to online printable exercises.
