The Wisdom Of Pixar: An Animated Look At Virtue by Robert Velarde is an enlightening book! Who knew an animation company could put out movies that were chock-full of virtue? I have watched many of the Pixar movies with my kids, and enjoyed them immensely. I always thought what good messages they sent. But not until I read this book did I sit down and think, my goodness, yes, these movies teach great lessons! Lesson on: 1) Identity, 2) Justice, 3) Friendship, 4) Humor, 5) Family, 6) Courage, 7) Adventure, 8) Ambition, 9) Technology, and 10) Love. The book is very very well written and easily laid out. I love the discussion questions at the end of each chapter, and the movie-by-movie discussion guide at the end of the book to help aide in a conversation about the movie with your kids. What a lovely book!

While I find that most children movies do offer some life lesson, only Pixar does it with expert skill. They do it subtly, but it leaves an impact.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, that being said, I didn't think Pixar's Cars lived up to their standards. It was highly entertaining, but I didn't think it had the same level of mastery. What do you think? And what did the book say about Cars?
