Get out of Your Drink Rut on Your Next Mom's Night Out

We’ve all been there. You walk up to the bar thinking you’re going to order something adventurous, something new and tasty, but when the bartender finally turns his attention to you, you panic and ask for the same drink you always order. It’s easy for anyone to get into a drink rut, but perhaps even more so for a mom who rarely gets a night out on the town. Sure you want to try new things, but do you really want to waste your money on something you may hate, especially when it will probably be awhile before you see the inside of a bar again? Rest easy, mama, we’ve got you covered. Here are some new twists on your old standby that we’re sure you’ll love.

For Beer Drinkers

If you usually go for whatever beer is on tap, next time you’re out try a Guiness Nitro IPA. The Nitro is an English-style IPA made with a mix of five hop varieties for citrus flavors and pine notes. What makes this beer especially unique is that it is brewed using Guiness’s nitrogenation process, making the texture smoother and creamier than your run-of-the-mill IPA.

For Gin or Vodka Drinkers

There is nothing wrong with your standard gin and tonic or vodka and club soda, but if you like a crisp, refreshing drink, there is a world of delicious drinks to try featuring your favorite clear liquor. For a drink using gin, try The Trip Home, which features gin, rosemary clove simple syrup (or another flavored simple syrup), lemon and club soda. Vodka drinkers will love The Half Windsor, which combines vodka, cucumber juice, agave nectar and lime juice for a cocktail that begs to be enjoyed on a back porch.

For Whiskey Drinkers

Many whiskey connoisseurs are completely satisfied with drinking their favorite brand straight up, on the rocks or with a splash of water, and with good reason. Whiskey is a flavorful liquor on its own. But for those times that the whiskey lover in you is also craving a cocktail, try either the Gold Rush (bourbon, honey syrup and lemon juice) or a classic Old Fashioned (a sugar cube, bitters, club soda and whiskey).

For Tequila Drinkers

If you always find yourself ordering a margarita because you love tequila, here are a few alternatives that might scratch the same itch. Try a Mayan Mule, which is a play on the traditional Moscow Mule. It is made with tequila, lime juice, bitters and ginger beer. For something closer to a margarita, order a Veracruzana, which is made with the traditional tequila, agave nectar, lime juice, muddled pineapple chunks and basil leaves.

For Sweet Cocktail Lovers

If your ideal cocktail has to satisfy your sweet tooth, look pretty in a glass and have a kick, you probably find yourself ordering either a cosmopolitan or a strawberry daiquiri. Luckily, there are so many fun drinks out there that will fit your bill. The light pink Cosmo Fresh is made with simple syrup, cranberry juice, Cointreau, citrus vodka and a lime garnish. You’ll also love looking at the Blue Agave Sipper (silver tequila, blue curaco, lime juice, agave nectar) almost as much as you’ll like drinking it.

For Champagne or Wine Lovers

For those times when a glass of straight wine or bubbly sounds like something you could pour yourself at home, ask for one of these refreshing drinks instead. The BFF’s orange and red layers come from a delicious combination of orange juice, grenadine, champagne and a cherry garnish. Instead of another glass of white wine, try a Cranberry Wine Spritzer (chilled white wine, cranberry juice, club soda).
