Remember When....

Hide and Seek. Red Light, Green Light. Red Rover, Red Rover. Ring Around The Rosie. London Bridge Is Falling Down. Annie-I-Over. Playing outside until the porch lights came on. Dad whistling for us to come home, and we knew his whistle and what it meant. If he had to whistle twice, you were in trouble. Cereal boxes with cool prizes in the bottom. Cracker Jacks! Saturday Morning Cartoons. Chores: taking out the garbage, washing the car, doing the dishes. Allowance was only about $1 a week, and that was a lot. Kool-Aid. Drinking from the hose. Riding on handlebars or buck-seat. Eenie-meenie-minee-moe. Getting one soda pop a week and that was a treat! Cooties. Kiss Or Kill. Blanket forts. Playing outside all day and into the evening, whether it was winter or summer. Sitting on the front steps eating a Popsicle. Real fireworks on the 4th of July, let off by Dad. Swimming in a lake so murky you could not see your own hand in the water, and loving it. MTV’s debut, with real music videos, all the time. Atari. Commodore. Space Invasion. Donkey Kong. Going to the storm shelter when the sirens went off, because they only went off if it meant severe weather. Eating watermelon and seeing who could spit the seeds the farthest. Real camping in a real tent. Don’t touch the sides if it rains, or it will leak! Baked potatoes and corn on the cob on the campfire. Rotary phones. Exchanging phone numbers instead of texts. *69. Polaroid cameras and 35mm. Snail Mail Pen Pals. Cabbage Patch dolls. Paper Dolls! Driving around in the winter looking at houses decked out in Christmas Lights. Caroling. Trying to stay awake to catch Santa! Keepsake diaries. Riding in the back of a pickup. Pic-Up Stix. Beeman gum. Home perms. Lawn darts. Buckets of paste at school, not glue. Bench seats in cars. Sun lamps, not tanning beds. Lisa Frank. Never Ending Story. He-Man and She-Ra. Highway to Heaven. China Beach. Where’s the beef? Aquanet aerosol hairspray. Lady Lovely Locks. Jake Ryan! Mood rings. Slouch socks. Chinese Checkers. Mr. Yuck. Mad Libs. Showbiz Pizza. Archie Comics. O’Boisies. The Chicken Machine. Invisible ink. Crimper. Moon Boots. Stirrup pants. Bop Magazine. The Oregon Trail. Hypercolor clothes. Fundraiser candy bars! Sideway Stories from Wayside School. Johnny Number Five. Girl Talk. Fashion Plates. Gizmo! And the list goes on and on.
