How to Tell if Someone is an Alcoholic

If you need information on how to tell if someone is an alcoholic, you may want to research facts on the Internet or contact your local drug and alcohol center for more accurate information from the professionals that know best.

A Tiny Sip
Alcoholism is a serious disease, and you may know someone that drinks heavily and is trying to hide it from you and from others. If this is the case, you may want to try to intervene and help as much as you can. If you are not sure if drinking is a problem, gather some information and then determine if help is needed. If this is someone close to you, you can try talking to the person and honestly ask them up front if they have issues with drinking. You could get an honest answer or just a lie. It can be hard for individuals facing this disease to admit that they have a problem and need help.

Investigate Your Subject
You could try to follow the person you are worried about or be around them for several hours of the day. This will allow you to see habits and determine if anything odd is taking place with behavior, especially around alcohol. You can see how much is being consumed and if it is affecting the person’s life in more than one way. It may seem sneaky to follow someone or always be there to watch their every move, but in the end, your intervention could save their life. Express your concerns to your loved one and let them know that you are there for support and guidance. Sometimes when someone hears that they can receive help for their addictions, they will finally admit to the problem and get started on treatment. If you have done everything in your power and have not gotten the results that you think should take place, step back and give it some time for the individual to come clean and to admit that they are abusing alcohol and have turned into an alcoholic.

A Big Help
How to tell if someone is an alcoholic can be very difficult and trying on your end. Some alcoholics are great at covering up their tracks and making sure no one suspects a thing. Be there to support and love your friend so that they have a shoulder to lean on when they are ready.
